FAQ's

What is BIM?

Building information modeling (BIM) is a process supported by various tools, technologies and contracts involving the generation and management of digital representations of physical and functional characteristics of places. Building information models (BIMs) are computer files which can be extracted, exchanged or networked to support decision-making regarding a built asset. BIM software is used to plan, design, construct, operate and maintain buildings and diverse physical infrastructures.

Which Software is used for BIM?

Building information modeling (BIM) Software can vary as there is a combination of software that can be used. GEM Drafting has experience using Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, & Tekla Structures for coordination models. We use Navisworks, BIM 360 ™ Glue, & Bluebeam for coordination, clash detection, project workflow, etc.

What Systems do you coordinate for BIM projects?

GEM Drafting specializes in Electrical and Masonry systems BIM, but that isn't our limits. Our staff has a wide range of expertise and can support whatever our clients needs are.

What is BIM Coordination?

During BIM Coordination GEM Drafting coordinates models with trades to resolve clashes between systems. This prevents the contractors from running into field issues that may arise between Architectural, MEP, Structural, Fire and other systems on a project.

BIM Coordination Services is an important design criteria and process used in all major construction projects. It provides better collaboration within the design domain to get an accurate digital representation among all disciplines of any construction project.

GEM Drafting has experienced personnel to coordinate Electrical and Masonry BIM up to LOD (Level of Design) 400.

How much do BIM Services cost?

The cost of BIM can vary depending on the size of the project, coordinated discipline and company providing the services.
